Across the street stands Rockefeller Center, which consists of 19 commercial buildings, including Radio City Music Hall, a venue for top performers and the famous NBC Studio. The multli- millionaire, John D. Rockefeller II, began building the world's largest privately owned business- entertainment enclave in 1928. Originally occpied by tenements and theaters, Rockefeller planned to revitalize the area with 3 huge office buildings and a new Metropolitan Opera House.

30 Rockefeller Plaza was the largest and first built. It is the centerpiece and probably best known building. Completed in 1934, 30 Rockefeller Plaza became the RCA/NBC headquarters and is now the most public of the buildings. The NBC Studio Tour takes you behind the scene of the popular shows such as "Saturday Night Live" and "Late Night With Conan O'Brien".

In addition to the 3 huge office buildings and a sunken plaza, that holds a skating rink in winter and an open- air restaurant in summer, the Rockefeller Center also contains New York City's famous gigantic Christmas tree.
