Formed inside a former factory, the Chelsea Market opened in 1997 as a giant shopping market. The inside architecture was kept in the original design of the factory, turning Chelsea Market into a unique shopping experience.
It now houses 12 of New York City's finest specialty food shops.
Food, flowers, kitchen supplies and dining occupy the ground- level space, the upper floors are used by company offices. Both neighborhood office workers and people in search of gourmet ingredients shop here.
There are 20 shops to visit and more freshproduce outlets.
