The Tribeca Film Festival was founded in 2002 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff as a response to the attacks on the World Trade Center. The festival's mission is to promote New York City as the world's independent film capital and to foster the economic and cultural revitalization of Lower Manhattan through an annual celebration of film, music, and culture.
Deadlie for submissions is in November and December. The 2005 Tribeca Film Festival screened 158 feature- length films and 96 short- films from 45 countries across the globe. The whole festival sprawls through seven theaters in tricky downtown locations. Apart from the screenings, the festival also features many free events including the Drive in and the Family Street Fair; there will be panel discussions with noted filmmakers, and more special events.
The fifth Tribeca Film Festival will take place April 25 through May 7, 2006.
