The New York City Marathon takes place every year on the first Sunday in November. When it was held for the first time, it counted only 127 starters. Today, the New York Marathon has become world famous and attracts as many as 37,000 runners. Not only the number of participants has grown, also the running course has become bigger than when it started in 1979 and was reduced to Central Park. The course is 26.2 miles long and goes from Staten Island over Brooklyn to Queens, the Bronx, and finally to Manhattann, finishing up at Tavern on the Green in world- famous Central Park.

The runners pass through dozens of culturally and ethnically diverse neighborhoods and cross five bridges, which makes the New York City Marathon an unforgettable experience for all participants. The fist man to reach the finish line is the lucky winner of 0,000; the first woman will even receive ,000 more.

This marathon is not only an attractive event for the runners themselves; one can also be part of the race as a spectator on Marathon Sunday.
