New York City

New York City is home to the New York Times newspaper which incidentally has an international circulation reach at present. Actually, the New York Times is the biggest metropolitan paper in the US right now as well. The nickname of this New York City-based paper is The Grey Lady because of its appearance. The New York Times is the most award-winning US newspaper too, because it has succeeded in snaring 95 Pulitzer Prizes to date. Being a respected publication, the New York Times newspaper adheres to the motto of All the News That’s Fit to Print, which may explain why its news stories and articles are used as official references. The original name of the newspaper was the New York Daily Times when it was founded in 1851.

The New York Times Company

The New York Times Company is owner and publisher of the New York Times newspaper. This company also produces another 15 US newspapers such as The Boston Globe and the International Herald Tribune. Much of the revenue of The New York Times Company is actually derived from the other company assets, rather than predominantly from the New York Times. Since The New York Times Company has Class B shares in the New York Stock Exchange, this allows the descendants of Adolph Ochs to retain control over the media company. The popular consumer information provider on the Internet called About.com also happens to be property of The New York Times Company (as of March 2005.) In May 2007, The New York Times Company sold off all its TV stations.
