The Cherry Lane Theatre is New York's oldest, continuously running off- broadway theatre. In 1924, intellectual adventurers, colleagues of Edna St. Vincent Millay, converted a unique structure into a theater they called Cherry Lane Playhouse. The building was originally built as a silo on the Gomez farm in 1817.

The Cherry Lane strives to cultivate an urban artist colony, to perpetuate the groundbreaking American heritage and to engage audiences as partners in creating theater that illuminates contemporary issues and, at its best, transforms the spirit.

The theatre has two performance spaces: the Mainstage Space with 180 seats, and the Studio Tjeatre with 70 seats. Both spaces are located on the ground floor.
