At first, the Central Park Zoo was simply a collection of donated animals. The collection has grown: Today, the Zoo is host to over 1,400 animals of over 130 species.

Visitors are led through tropic, temperate and polar regions to encounter fascinating animals from leafcutter ants to polar bears.

The Tisch Children's Zoo that was added in 1997 allows animal lovers to meet gentle creatures up close. There are year- round education classes and innovative public programs, including the zoo's "Wildlife Theater."
